PLAN OF ACTION FOR COVID 19

RESTRICTION OF PUBLIC GATHERINGS AND POSTPONEMENT OF EVENTS

At this time, Mona Preparatory School is fully operational. (NO CASES OF CORONAVIRUS HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY). As a school community, we are being proactive in dealing with the threat of coronavirus (also known as COVID-19). Members of staff will meet frequently, and the situation will be closely monitored. Decisions will be made with the wellbeing of students, faculty and staff as the top priority.

Mona Preparatory School encourages everyone to make personal plans should the general situation change or should an individual illness necessitate quarantine. These include storing a 14-day supply of food and other items, among them medications that one takes regularly. Additionally, simple steps to reduce the risk of infection should be followed by everyone at all times: such as washing hands or using alcohol-based hand sanitizer; refraining from touching one’s face; covering one’s mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing; avoiding close contact with those who are coughing and sneezing; and staying home when one feels ill.

A Message from Dr. Carol Blanchard (Principal)

Since the coronavirus could become a pandemic in the near future, we should consider starting personal and workplace preparations. This is a good time for all members of the Mona Community to make plans to ensure that everyone is protected. In the same way we prepare for hurricane season, preparations related to coronavirus should include contingencies and supplies you and your family will need should you have to be quarantined at home for a minimum of 14 days. Please ensure you have enough food and medication for every member of your family. The most important step you can take right now is to stay informed and make sure that your friends, family and colleagues are aware and are following the guidelines outlined by health officials. We will continue to monitor the development of the coronavirus situation and will keep you informed as necessary.

Kindly note the following:

Re-entry of Students Travelling
Mona Preparatory School will request all parents and guardians to inform the school by telephone if persons in their household have travelled to areas that are deemed to be high-risk for widespread sustained transmission of the virus. Upon notification, the school will work with health officials to determine the appropriate action regarding re-entry of those children into the school. The school will make this request with a letter/ email or telephone conversation.

Registration of New Students from High Risk Areas
Any new families coming to Mona Prep. from high-risk areas are also requested to telephone the school for instructions prior to registration. School officials will work with health officials to determine the appropriate registration and attendance plan for those students. A registration email will be established to assist these families. Families arriving from high-risk areas are asked not to visit the school, but to communicate by telephone. Families that arrive at the school will be asked to conduct registration via email

Sanitization of School Facilities
Beginning Wednesday, March 4, 2020 the school will begin a process of increased sanitizing and disinfecting of all classes/facilities using approved disinfectants. Bulk hand sanitizer as well as other disinfectants will be distributed shortly to all classes, and the school will ensure that adequate supplies of soap and paper towels for students and employees are available.

School Attendance
Students who provide written documentation from their healthcare provider advising them to refrain from attending school due to the Coronavirus will be fully accommodated with educational information. Families of these students are asked to coordinate with the school principal to develop an appropriate education plan on a case-by-case basis. For all other students, normal school attendance policies remain in effect. The school is prepared to make decisions with guidance from health officials as necessary
