Subject: School Update

SCIENCE LABS

The Science Lab curriculum is a part of the general curriculum utilised by our teachers. Mona Preparatory School created an opportunity for labs to ensure there was a deliberate opportunity to conduct experiments with the students for increased understanding of the concepts taught. We will continue to facilitate these sessions online because the children will not have sessions in the Science Lab based on our procedures to contain our students in their classrooms for instructions (maintaining the bubble). In the absence of Mr Tracey (Teacher of Science), the Class Teachers (grades 3 to 6) will conduct the experiment element of the Science curriculum. This was the mode of operating before the introduction of the labs as a separate subject in a lab setting.

SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS (STEM) FOR KINDERGARTEN

Each kindergarten class is scheduled for one term of STEM classes during the academic year. Hence, a rotation schedule is developed to roster each class. The following classes have had STEM instructions in the Christmas Term, 2020 – K2 Gordon and K3 McFarlane. The other classes will be accommodated in the Summer Term, 2021.

THE USE OF DEVICES FOR THE FACE TO FACE ELEMENT OF THE BLENDED PROGRAMME

Students in grades 3 to 6 are required to take their fully charged devices to School, along with their headsets (AirPods, headphones etc.) to access the specialist subject teachers’ classes. This is a part of the School’s Covid-19 protocols because the children will not be allowed to physically go to the rooms of the specialist teachers.

We continue to wish for everyone a productive and rewarding term.
